BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER - Sept. 19th-24th $600
This unique little warbler of the Midwest with a song that says “I am so la zee”, as portrayed on the cover of Wildfowl Carving Spring 2003 will be done full size. The carver will learn to use the included pattern in conjunction with a “block” shaping technique that easily transfers to other types of birds. A strong emphasis will be placed on shaping & a system for carving the eyes & bill that helps establish facial shape & personality. Surface preparation will include feather layout, bumping, & texturing individual feathers. Bill reinforcement & fabrication of feet & habitat will also be demonstrated. Instruction with acrylic paint will cover mixing with mediums, paint consistency, wet-on-wet blending & dry brushing. Tupelo cutouts & glass eyes will be provided. Castings of the warbler made from Lonnie’s own carving will be available for reference while carving & may be used for painting if your carving is not ready to paint.
