THREE-DAY CLASS Habitat
Techniques $380 ($345 members)
Participants will learn fabrication and finishing techniques for delicate
habitat elements, such as small diameter branches and grasses. Lonnie will
place emphasis on delicate appearance with strong superstructure and minimal
points of contact for both the bird and the base using such materials as
brass, copper and steel. Detachable bases and birds are often essential
for safe transport or shipping, and the techniques for making these will
be covered,
as well as the use of solder, epoxy and paints for texture detail. |

says “I am so la zee”, as portrayed on the cover of Wildfowl
Carving Spring 2003 will be done full size. The carver will learn to

bill that helps establish facial shape & personality. Surface preparation
will include feather layout, bumping, & texturing individual feathers.
Bill reinforcement & fabrication of feet & habitat will also
be demonstrated. Instruction with acrylic paint will cover mixing with
mediums, paint consistency, wet-on-wet blending & dry brushing.
Tupelo cutouts & glass eyes will be provided. Castings of the warbler
made from Lonnie’s own carving will be available for reference
while carving & may be used for painting if your carving is not
ready to paint.
